Assemble  with your hands and learn how the 4-speed manual transmission works.

The set has a QR code for a training manual on the mechanism with the history of its invention, a description of the principle of its work, basic characteristics, definitions, formulas and interesting tasks

Dip into augmented reality (AR) and see how the gearbox works in the car, and interact with the assembled model using the Ugears AR special application

Learn how the 4-speed manual transmission works and works

The gearbox is a stylized learning model, an interactive tutorial designed only to study the basics and principles of its mechanisms. A manual gearbox is a reduction gear that transmits RPM from the engine to the driving wheels. After assembling the model, perform an experiment: select the kinetic pairs of gears in turn, turn on the lever in turn I, II, III and reverse gear and control the rotation speed of the driving and driven shafts.

In position "N" - neutral gear - both toothed clutches on the intermediate shaft do not engage with gear teeth, rotation of the drive shaft takes place in idle position. The "1st" speed allows the intermediate shaft and all gears to rotate at a minimum speed. With the "2nd" gear on, the driven shaft together with the flywheel rotates at an average speed. Switch to the "3rd" speed and see that the intermediate shaft and all gears rotate at maximum speed. Move the gearshift lever to the R-rear elevation. When the drive handle rotates clockwise, the left gear clutch moves to the left to the gear with the mark R and is engaged with it by teeth, thus transmitting rotation to the lower row of gears and driving the intermediate shaft and all gears to rotate in the reverse direction.

By whom and when it was first created

The inventor of the manual gearbox is the famous German engineer Karl Benz.

Use

The main use of the gearbox was found in the automotive industry as an integral element of the transmission for transmitting torque from the engine shaft to the wheels of the car.

The manual transmission mechanism consists of:

Gearshift handle

Set of movable toothed couplings on driven shaft

Drive handle

Reverse Gear Unit

Drive shaft

The Gearbox model is designed as an interactive tutorial.

It is easily assembled without glue and tools. Everything you need to build, study and interact with it, you will find in the set:

A set of high-quality wooden plates and components. Parts are already cut, they are simply extruded from plates and ready for assembly

Detailed step-by-step color assembly instruction

A QR code for a reference tutorial on the Gearbox model with the history of its invention, a description of the principle of its work, basic characteristics, definitions, formulas from physics, mechanics, with entertaining tasks in pdf format in different languages. Also, the full interactive version is available in a special section of the Ugears AR STEM application on your smartphone or tablet (downloads for free)
