The pendulum is a stylized learning model, an interactive tutorial designed only to study the basics and principles of its mechanism. The pendulum is one of the simplest and most reliable mechanisms for reporting time. The principle of its operation: the model oscillates with a constant amplitude due to the action of gravity (load) on it and the potential energy (tension force) of the rubber harness, which drives the model mechanism and compensates for the loss of kinetic energy of the pendulum during oscillations. The work is based on a gear mechanism driven by a tailwheel.

The model consists of an anchor fork, in which it is possible to adjust the frequency of oscillations, a load, an anchor wheel, a system of gears, a rubber bundle, a ratchet with a snail to smooth out the error in operation. The model provides several methods for adjusting the frequency of oscillations: weight of the load, height of the load on the pendulum and tension of the rubber.

By whom and when it was first created

He was the first to conduct experiments and describe the properties of the pendulum to maintain the constancy of the period of oscillation Galileo Galilei, an Italian engineer at the end of the 16th century. In the 17th century, the Dutch physicist Christian Huygens managed to use the pendulum in wheeled watches with weights and achieve their uniform movement. Frenchman Etienne Lulier at the end of the 17th century used a pendulum in a metronome, an instrument that makes a rhythmic series of clicks that can be calculated in minutes.

Use

The main application of the Pendulum was found in mechanical clocks as an integral element of lowering and maintaining the stroke in the operation of the clock mechanism. Also, pendulums are used in music - in metronomes, as an accurate benchmark for pace, in geological exploration, in seismography, in sports and laboratory research in the field of mechanics and physics

Mechanical Pendulum mechanism consists of:

Running wheel

Switch indicator

Pendulum with anchor

Load of pendulum

Ugears STEM-lab models are designed for different age groups with an emphasis on the training element, so assembling a model will not be difficult and will not take long.
