The 6N139 is a high-speed optocoupler expertly engineered for applications demanding robust electrical isolation, a high current transfer ratio, and rapid operational speed. This device incorporates an AlGaAs LED optically coupled to a high gain split darlington photodetector.

Key Features

- High current transfer ratio, typically 2000%

- Low input current, 0.5 mA or 1.6 mA (depending on manufacturer/version)

- High common mode rejection, 500 V/µs to 10 kV/µs

- Adjustable bandwidth with base access

- TTL compatible output, 0.1 V VOL typical

- Performance guaranteed over temperature 0°C to 70°C

- High output current, 60 mA

- Safety approval: UL recognized, CSA approved, VDE recognized (depending on the specific part number)

Versatile Applications

- Digital logic ground isolation

- Telephone ring detector

- EIA RS-232C line receiver

- Microprocessor system interface

- PLC, ATE input/output isolation

- Low input current line receiver

- Detection of AC mains

- Feedback of SMPS (Switch Mode Power Supply)

- PWM based applications

- Lighting systems

- Multiplexed data transmission

- Digital control power supply

- Ground loop and electrical noise elimination

- Voltage level translation (TTL, CMOS)

The 6N139 is ideally suited for low power logic applications involving CMOS and low power TTL. It provides excellent isolation for most logic families, including TTL/TTL, CMOS/TTL, CMOS/CMOS, LSTTL/TTL, and CMOS/LSTTL. An internal noise shield ensures exceptional common mode rejection. This optocoupler is available in 8-Pin DIP or SOIC-8 footprint or widebody package.

Handling Precautions

Due to the small geometries of this device, it should be handled with Electrostatic Discharge (ESD) precautions. Proper grounding would prevent damage further and/or degradation which may be induced by ESD.
